Great Hall Performances
Kentwell has been putting on entertainments in the Great Hall since its first Christmas Choral Concert in 1976.
In addition to the Annual Christmas Choral Concert a variety of other performances (Plays, Revues, Opera, Classical Ensembles) were spread somewhat randomly throughout the year. In more recent years the Great Hall performances have been collected together into a short season at Christmas.
Christmas Performances
These usually take place shortly before Christmas and have included Popular Opera Aria and a Christmas Choral Concert.
Open Air Peformances
In summer 1982 Kentwell hosted its first Open Air Performance - of Shakespeare's The Tempest - and thereafter a Shakespeare play every year for 25 years.
From time to time there were occasional other open air performances but it was not until the year 2000 that Kentwell established a regular open air season adding Opera, Concerts and other Plays.
This pattern is now well established and the season usually covers three weeks in late July and early August each year. For all open air performances the audience can enjoy a picnic supper in the floodlit Gardens and this has become an important part of the evening's delight.
