Concerts & Theatre at Kentwell

Open Air Peformances

In summer 1982 Kentwell hosted its first Open Air Performance - of Shakespeare's The Tempest - and thereafter every year since has hosted Open Air Performances - whatever the weather.  In the early days the audience was hardy.  Less so nowadays.  Very occasionally performances have been affected by the weather (three times seriously in about 100 performances and each time the same orchestra).

Since the year 2000 Kentwell established a regular open air season covering Opera & Concerts as well as Plays.

This pattern is now well established and the season usually covers three weeks in late July and early August each year. For all open air performances the audience can enjoy supper (or a Kentwell Buffet) in a picnic in the floodlit Gardens and this has become an important part of the evening's pleasure.
