Viva Las Vegas - an Elvis Tribute Night
We Love Elvis
Patrick Phillips of Kentwell grew up with the Elvis phenomenon. Indeed, he shared a flat in the late 1950s with an Elvis lookalike, who was often mistaken for Elvis. An early Elvis impersonator ? He and his wife have enjoyed Elvis's music ever since. This year sees the 30th anniversary of Elvis's death on 16th August 1977. The Concert will be a tribute to Elvis very close to that anniversary.
Date & Time
Friday 10 August 2007 - Gates Open at 6.30pm. Concert starts at 8.00pm.
Elvis in Las Vegas
Elvis had several phases to his career, of which the last phase was his concerts in Las Vegas which were in one sense retrospectives of his whole career. For a time in the 1960s he had been over-shadowed by the Beatles. Such a time had seemed impossible only a few years previously when he so dominated popular music and rock'n'roll. His Las Vegas years were also a time when physically he appeared a shadow of his former self (although in actuality a bloated form of it). Yet his singing still captured the heights of earlier days. So a Tribute evening based upon a Las Vegas show captures Elvis when at his most retrospective.
