Re-Creations of Everyday WWII Life at Kentwell

Kentwell's Re-Creations

Kentwell had a major role during WWII when Hall and Park were requisitioned by the Army.

The Re-Creations of WWII life attempt to re-create as faithfully as possible how life of the family then living at the Hall and their staff was affected by the War. Although there is always a service aspect, we tend to comcentrate more upon Civilian Life and the effect the War had upon civilians daily life. We show Mrs Starkie Bence at home with relatives & friends, a few staff to look after here and a number of locals (among them the Home Guard) helping with the Fete.  We usually have a few service personnel on hand either helping the Home Guard on their exercises or just visiting with Mrs Bence.

Whit Re-Creation - Home Guard, 1940s Fete & Tea Dance   2 - 4 June 2012

The Whitsun WWII Re-Creation takes as its theme a 1940s Fundraising Fete. Raising money for the war effort was a part of everyday life. Not much money may have been raised (compared with the huge cost of the War) but it enabled every citizen to feel involved. [The money we raise from the Fete each year always goes to a suitable wartime Charity.]

HM The Queen's Diamond Jubilee  5 June 2012

The Diamond Jubilee is being tagged on to the Whit Bank Holiday Weekend.  We are extending our WWII Re-Creation also but on this day in addition to everything else we shall have a Street Party. Partly because that has an early 1950s feel to it but also because it is almost the anniversary (actually 6 June) of the D Day Landings.

However, we propose our street party to be for children (or young at heart) with a Mad Hatter's Tea Party Theme.
