Last Night of the Proms
Saturday 8th August at 7.30pm
Once again Kentwell will be presenting a Last Night of the Proms Concert to conclude our short Open Air entertainments Season. The Concert will as usual feature the traditional climax and leading up it an interesting mix. Some popular operatic aria; also a little bit of wartime (to mark the 65th Anniversary of D Day - the army transit camp at Kentwell was at its busiest in the days leading up to D Day with thousands stationed temporarily in the Park here); and a little bit of Irish to mark my antecedants and youthful idolising of the great Irish tenor, Count John McCormack; plus some Handel to mark his anniversary this year. Quite a variety you might think.
Where Played
On the Front Lawns with the House as background. Gates Open at 6.15pm.
Bring your own tables, chairs and picnic paraphenalia.
You may also hire a Kentwell picnic table (with integral seating) in sizes for four (small), four (larger), six and eight persons.
There will be a Refreshment and Beer Tent and Kentwell Picnic Suppers in a basket may be ordered in advance.
Orchestra
We welcome back the London Gala Orchestra - who performed so memorably here at our previous Last Night Concert in 2007 when we had a large orchestra and huge choir for Orff's Carmina Burana (to satisfy my long held ambition to have that performed here). This year we are more modest in our offering with the orchestra performing closer to its usual size (25 to 30) and without a choir, as we are including no choral pieces. However, once again we shall welcome solo singers who have performed at Kentwell often over the years to bring you some of the most popular aria.
Soloists
We welcome back John Moorman - Tenor, a Licentiate of the London College of Music started singing publicly as a treble including solos at the Albert Hall. He has sung opera & lieder throughout East Anglia.
Krenulla Prodromou - Mezzo Soprano, an Associate of the London College of Music is frequently seen locally in plays and musicals. She is the holder of a LAMDA Gold Medal in Acting. The Programme
As I write this we are finalising the details of the programme. We know of course how it will end but not how it will start or everything in between. We are hoping to have a major piece in the First Half. Watch this spot.
