Tudor Midsummer at Kentwell

The biggest (and probably best) event of its type in the UK (and possibly in the world)

Step Back in Time

During Tudor Kentwell visitors embark on a time travel experience which takes them back to Tudor times. All about is the Tudor age. Relax into it and spend a day in the 16th Century! Excellent for children but enjoyed by all. Maybe you visited as a schoolchild? Well over half a million schoolchildren have happily done so.

I first visited Kentwell as part of a School trip in about 1982/3. I loved it then and today, just over 30 years later, I took my 4 year old daughter and sceptical husband to see your Tudor recreation. We had a wonderful time - it was everything I remembered and better - although I do wonder how you can feel nostalgic about Tudor times! Thank you so much for providing us with a wonderful family day out and an antidote to all the 'recreations' at other properties which never, in my view, live up to the Kentwell experience. It was worth the trip form Norwich and I hope it won't be another 39 years before we come back.

Fare thee well! With thanks and best wishes, Lucy

Time Tunnel

Modern life is separated from Tudor Kentwell by our time tunnel which takes you back in time to enter the 16th Century. Once inside everywhere is as it would have been in Tudor times spread over the 40 acres of the Kentwell estate and in our Manor house.

Year Portrayed

Each Re-Creation is set in a different year of the 120 years of the Tudor period. Kentwell's Tudors react to the outside events of that year as if they were actually taking place then.

What will visitors see?

More than 200 Tudors (up to 400 at weekends) at any one time creating the dress, speech, food, drink, music, dance, crafts, activities, pleasures and way of life of the chosen year. Visitors feel they have been transported back to a whole 16th C. community in which everyone is dependant upon each other. This is how life actually was not just a series of demonstrations.

Catering

We provide 21st Century food from the Stableyard Tearoom. You are free to picnic in our picnic area outside the Time Tunnel.

Opening Days & Times

Tudor Kentwell is open to the public on Saturdays & Sundays between 24 June and 2 July 2017 from 11am to 5pm. Other days are reserved for pre-booked school parties and home educators.

Time to Allow

Most visitors spend at least four hours in the Re-Creation but a large number spend the day here, entering when the event opens and staying until it closes.

School visits

Visit our dedicated schools site for information about visiting Tudor Kentwell as a school group, or home educators.

Weather

Please do not think that Kentwell is just a fair weather visit - we carry on whatever the weather. There will be indoor activities and some of our outdoor activities can be moved inside if the weather fails us.

How long to spend?

Most people arrive early and aim to spend most of the day here - there is so much to do and see.

There is a picnic site by the Main Gates, with a marvellous view of the house, however we do not allow picnics inside the grounds.

Please do not attend in Costume!

We ask that visitors to any Kentwell event do not attend in any sort of costume.
