Scaresville 2010

As soon as Scaresville 2009 finished we started thinking about 2010.  We are striving to devise some different scares - not more scary, most people think it was scary enough, but different - to maintain the element of surprise for all our visitors. The challenge is to scare without being gruesome.

Visiting

We suggest it is best to come in your own group of 6 or 8. In order to maintain the scares we limit the numbers entering during each hourly slot each night to try to give everyone an equally scary time.  We allow small groups of (usually) no more than 6 or 8 to enter at a time and encourage them to maintain their distance from those ahead and behind.

For 2010, we hope visitors will make up their own groups and book in numbers of 6 or 8.  It is so much more enjoyable for all if you are among friends who will enjoy you being scared as much as you'll enjoy seeing them scared.  But don't despair if you are on your own or just a couple for we'll make up a group to include you.  But try to remain with your group in order to get the best of the scares we offer.  If you meet up with the group ahead or behind you the scares will be diluted and if you break off on your own you may miss out on many scares.

Scaresville is not for the squeamish, pregnant or faint-hearted (or those of a sensitive disposition or young children, i.e. under 12) You have been warned ! Do you Dare ?

The House and its immediate outbuildings will not be Open and are not used at all during Scaresville.

Dates & Times for Scaresville 2010

Nightly from Friday 15th to Sunday 31st October 2010 from dusk.

Booking

Booking will open on August 1st 2010.  Doubtless many people will want to come over the Halloween weekend itself but in 2009 we had to turn away over 300 then as we were full.  Better to book for an earlier night (which may also be cheaper) than insist upon Halloween itself.

The Weather

Kentwell folk are hardy. We continue whatever the weather believing in the old saying "There's no such thing as bad weather; only inappropriate clothing" and we would add 'inappropriate footwear'. Dress for the weather to be expected and likely ground conditions underfoot.

Catering

We shall have both the Overcroft Restaurant (from 6.0pm to 10.00pm) and the Stableyard Grill (5.30pm to midnight) Open each night Stableyard Grill before or after.  On some nights, you can tarry in the Alehouse en route to enjoy a ghoulish drink.

What You Need to  Know

Bring appropriate clothing & footwear - Scaresville continues whatever the weather.   Call on the day for latest weather information.

Don't raise umbrellas (you may miss Scares if you do or worse poke someone's eye out if you're startled)

Proceed everywhere with caution ! You don't know what we may have in store for you.

Don't bring torches ! We light your route with very low level lighting but as you are moving through the dark or near dark you should take special care. If you must bring your own torch make it a low power pencil light.  A powerful searchlight torch may destroy your own and other visitors' fun.  Those with bright torches may find that some scares, which depend upon darkness, will not operate or be operated for them. Moreover if you shine a torch this may be taken as an indication that you want to avoid scares which may not then operate.

Large Parties  If you come in a large party be prepared to split into smaller groups (of about 6 to 8) to go round.  Thereafter keep your group separate from the Groups ahead of and behind you. Large parties en masse may miss much of the fun.

Make sure to arrive during or before your booked Time Slot.  If you miss your time slot you'll have to wait until the end of the following Time Slot - if there's room then. If you miss your day - that's devilish bad luck.  There are no refunds.

Tickets

Entrance will be limited in each time slot so it is necessary to book. Once booking opens, you can book on-line or by telephone to the Kentwell Estate Office. The number of tickets released and the prices will vary from time to time so keep checking.  Check before you come on any day without pre-booked tickets to find out if any on-the-night tickets are available.

You may book on-line up to 5.00pm on the night of your visit. Children (i.e. those aged 12 and under 16) MUST be accompanied by an Adult.

Entry Times

For each time band tickets are issued in order on arrival and you'll be called through by ticket numbers. This helps to ensure that small groups only enter the Experience, one group at a time, with short intervals between groups.

The Experience usually lasts about an hour or so unless you tarry.  So you'll probably be at Scaresville for up to 2 hours in all. Therefore, if you book the 8pm to 9pm Time Slot and want to get in early, arrive at Kentwell well before 8.00pm. If you arrive dead on 8.00pm (or later) you may find all the rest of the Time Slot already here and you may have to wait until nearly 9pm to enter.

If you miss your Time Slot completely, you'll have to wait for all those who have booked for the next Time Slot to arrive before you can enter (but only if there is space in a later Time Slot) and if the later slot is more expensive you'll have to pay the difference. There will be little (if any) difference between the time slots; though some folk are convinced that as the night draws on it will feel scarier.

Refunds

There are no refunds though we may at our discretion and given at least 48 hours notice before your booked time, alter your time slot for a later one.  If you don't come on the night for which you booked that's your loss.

Times & Prices

These are the 2010 on-the-night prices. Before making a journey without pre-booked tickets call to check whether any will be available that night.  If you book on-line in advance you will enjoy a discount from the prices stated below. This discount may vary from day to day.  The current discounted price will appear when you book on-line or be advised to you for a telephone booking.  For 2010 booking opens on 1st August 2010. It will not be possible to biuy tickets before this date.

Scaresville 2009

What a fantastic night!! We didn't think that it could get any better than last year but it was soooo much improved. I can't say that we enjoyed it more than last year, because that was our first time and it was our best night out of 2008, but we certainly enjoyed it as much. We brought different friends and our daughter-in-law this time and they absolutely loved it! I have never heard so many screams.
It was a longer route, more mazes, more volunteers and every addition was just great. My daughter-in-law wet herself in the Rat Run!
What is so nice, is that it's for every age, our youngest was 17 and our oldest 65 and they can't wait to come again next year. It's harmless fun but it gets you jumping and the adrenalin pumping!
I think it's going to have to be a minibus next year to bring us all from Norwich.
Thank you so much for all your hard work, we throroughly enjoyed it.

What a Scream of a night!

Thanks to my girlfriend for booking this. We went on Halloween and have not laughed so hard for ages. Scares and laughter throughout the night. Thanks also to all the scarers for such a fun night. We will be back for more spooks next year.
