The Building of Kentwell Hall is an Exclusive Limited Tour by Patrick Phillips KC
Patrick will be describing Lutons, the previous moated house on the site along with the following:
John Clopton’s Works
Broadening the moat & transforming it by brick-lining into a symbol of status.
Mason and brick-makers
Building in brick. Why and how done ? Clamps & firing.
Adding a new service range on the new moat wall
How and why he built a new House
Its layout as a single typical Hall House.
Its distinct features: brick, size, large many light windows and chimneys
A House with two distinct fronts and no back
A free standing kitchen
Sir William Clopton’s Works
Added a off th end of the House
Later added the West Wing
How he form the parts into a then unique symmetrical House
How this made the first Open Courtyard House.
How he extended the wings and added with projecting wings and later West Wing
The addition of the towers
Bringing the Kitchen Into the House
Guardrobes function and operation
Adding stables, barn and gatehouse.

Tickets can be purchased on the gate. However, this will incur an extra £2.00 charge.

Dress with suitable clothing and footwear for the weather!

The Tearoom will be open until 15 minutes before closing time.

No dogs, except guide dogs, are permitted within the grounds.

The majority of the gardens are reasonably accessible by wheelchair in good weather but less so when underfoot is muddy.
