Broadening the moat & transforming it by brick-lining
Adding a service range & ? New kitchen

Making and forming bricks. Clamps & firing.
Mason, joiners & plumbers
New statement house built in brick on a single width typical Hall House layout
On a massive scale with many large numerous light ‘stone’ windows
Major stair tower added to SE corner
Sir William Clopton’s Works 1497 - c1515
Added a matching East Wing to include exiting stair tower.
Later added a matching West Wing including an internal Kitchen
The whole forming England’s first symmetrical House
Added Octagon Towers to each wing to underline symmetry
Result was England’s first Open Courtyard House.
How he extended the Wings and added with projecting wingsWing and later West Wing
Guardrobes function and operation
Added stables, barn and gatehouse.

1578 then Clopton created a Long Gallery over central
1676b Sir Thomas Robinson’s 17th C works, the Avenue, new chimneys & main Stair
C1800 Richard Moore replaced visible oak with pine & a fireplace in every room
1825 Hart Logan employed Thomas Hopper to remodel the main rooms in Gothic style
1972 - Patrick Phillips’ various ‘improvements’

Tickets can be purchased on the gate. However, this will incur an extra £2.00 charge.

The Tearoom will be open until 15 minutes before closing time.

The majority of the gardens are reasonably accessible by wheelchair in good weather but less so when underfoot is muddy.
